Description

Based at either:

Burgh Yard, Cairnie Loan, Arbroath.

You will work 13 hours per week (working over a 2 week rota):

Week 1 - Thursday and Friday, 6 hours 30 minutes per day
Week 2 - Saturday and Sunday, 6 hours 30 minutes per day

Shift working hours window between 9.00am to 4.00pm.

or

Recycling Centre, Balmachie Road, Carnoustie.

You will work an average of 14.38 hours per week (working over a 2 week rota):

Week 1 – Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 5 hours 45 minutes per day
Week 2 – Saturday and Sunday, 5 hours 45 minutes per day

Shift working hours window between 9.50am to 4.05pm.

Duties

  • Undertake, either individually or as part of a team, duties concerned with public access to / and usage of recycling centres.
  • Regularly pull, push and carry heavy bulky items, equipment and bins and walk distances within the site.
  • Control and oversee public access and use of recycling centres at all times to prevent contamination, skip-raking, theft of council property and vandalism.   
  • Direct members of the public to the appropriate skips, bins, waste-oil receptors etc. within the site.
  • Assist where necessary, members of the public with unloading and safe disposal of bulky materials in the appropriate skips, bins etc.  
  • Maintain a good working relationship between the service and members of the public,  by being polite, courteous and respectful at all times and upholding and strengthening the council’s values of fairness, equity, honesty and integrity.  
  • Undertake keyholder and security responsibilities as required.
  • Maintain simple records of quantities and weights of materials collected.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation is completed and submitted in line with department procedures.  
  • Sweep up any mess left by service users and refuse collection and maintain the office, site and site surrounding areas and ensure these are clean and tidy at all times.
  • Report to the supervisor, fly-tipping, damage, theft of deposited items/materials, vandalism or disrepair to bins, equipment or facilities.  
  • Comply with Health and Safety at Work Act and other legal requirements, Codes of Practice, and established local authority procedures & safe systems of work.  
  • To comply with all data protection law in the processing of personal, and special categories of personal data, in line with the council’s full privacy statement and service privacy notices.

  • Experience of assisting drivers with manoeuvres e.g. reversing, guiding through tight spaces
  • Ability to promote recycling awareness
