Description

Based at Andrew Smythe Gardens, Forfar.

You will work 30 hours per week on a shift pattern, including weekends and regular nightshift.

This job is temporary for up to 1 year from date of appointment to cover maternity leave.

Internal and external applications on a secondment basis will be considered. You must have the approval of your line manager / organisation.

Duties

  • Provide social care for the individual in their own home or as a resident.
  • Promote equality for all individuals by ensuring that their individuality, confidentiality, privacy, choice and rights are respected at all times 
  • Contribute to the health, safety and security of service users.
  • Provide the support required to enable carers to continue in the caring role as contributors to the care plan.
  • Assist service users to maintain social contact and to make use of available services and information.
  • Support service users and their carers at times of loss, personal trauma and crisis.
  • Participate in group work, including therapeutic and recreational activities.
  • Work co-operatively with Care Managers, service users, carers and members of other agencies to ensure the development of positive working relationships and an active partnership in relation to meeting individual care needs.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to effective team work and the flexible development of the service.
  • To comply with all data protection law in the processing of personal, and special categories of personal data, in line with the council’s full privacy statement and service privacy notices.

Essential criteria

  • Understanding of the needs of older people and their carers
  • Understanding of community care principles
  • Good listening skills
  • Good oral communication skills
  • Good written communication skills       
  • Practical experience of working with vulnerable adult
  • Experience of carrying out personal care and domestic tasks to a high standard
  • Willingness to undertake training
  • Willingness to undertake mandatory information government  training
  • Ability to assess situations and take appropriate action including responding to individual needs
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to observe/maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work unsupervised and on own initiative                     
  • Reliability
  • Full, current driving license
  • Ability to work a 24 hour shift pattern including  waking night duty and weekend working
  • Ability to become a member of the PVG Scheme

Desirable criteria

  • Manual handling certificate
  • Basic first aid
  • SVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or a willingness to undertake and achieve within an agreed timescale
  • IT skills
