Description

Based at Angus House, Orchardbank Business Park, Forfar.

Duties

  • Assist in capturing and creating spatial datasets for the GIS data warehouse.
  • Assist in maintaining GIS datasets and related metadata including the address and street gazetteers
  • Assist in providing system support and administration for business systems
  • Provide a quality support service for information systems and GIS tools, applications and data.
  • Assist with the development and delivery of training to information system and GIS users.
  • Assist with the implementation and configuration of new GIS and data analytical tools and applications.
  • Develop and deliver spatial and data analytical output for service customers, including revised datasets, hard copy maps and web site content.
  • Advise and assist with council-wide data analytics/visualisation projects and work requests.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of new information services and solutions.
  • Adhere to agreed service request and service operational procedures and policies, in accordance to the ITIL framework.
  • To comply with all data protection law in the processing of personal, and special categories of personal data, in line with the council’s full privacy statement and service privacy notices.  

Essential criteria

  • HNC or equivalent in a GIS or IT-related field and relevant post qualification experience or considerable relevant GIS/IT support experience
  • Willingness to undertake mandatory information governance training
  • Experience of using desktop GIS software, preferably QGIS or ArcGIS
  • Experience of working with spatial datasets
  • Experience of creating and publishing maps based on spatial data
  • Good oral communication skills
  • Good written communication skills
  • Good customer care skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Self-motivated.
  • Ability to take ownership of own tasks and projects, and ability to deliver these with minimal supervision
  • Ability to use own judgement and experience to make decisions based on operational risk

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of creating, editing and transforming structured data in different formats
  • Experience of working with customers to identify new data and spatial recording/reporting opportunities
  • Experience of supporting applications
  • Knowledge of ITIL and how ITIL processes can be used to improve service provision
