Based at Burgh Yard, Queenswell Road, Forfar.


  • Provide relief supervisory cover for annual leave/sickness/training.  
  • Take Line Manager responsibility for managing staff in accordance with Council policies and procedures.  
  • Ensure that safe working practices are adopted in accordance with current legislation and departmental procedures.
  • Responsible for the requisition, allocation and utilisation of plant and materials.
  • Ensure the appropriate returns are completed.
  • Ensure, where appropriate, drivers checks are completed and tacho-graphs are returned/down-loaded.  
  • Organise shift rotas in accordance with the working time regulations and Drivers hours rules. 
  • Check and authorise timesheets.
  • Carry out regular inspections of work activities and areas.  
  • When required liaise with contractors, suppliers, insurers and other relevant outside bodies.  
  • Liaise with the appropriate section on matters such as sickness absence, requests for physiotherapy, requests for maternity support leave etc.  
  • Carry out return to work interviews and staff performance appraisals.
  • Ensure the security of depots and property belonging to Angus Council.
  • Report to your line manager employee accidents, vehicle accident damage, fleet issues, property issues etc.  
  • Participate fully in the recruitment process as required.  
  • Carry out staff training and briefing sessions, and chair staff meetings as required.
  • Respond to customer enquiries and requests, including personal visits and calls as required.  
  • Assist with the development of risk assessments and safe systems of work.

Essential criteria

  • Certificate in Supervisory
  • Management or equivalent or relevant supervisory experience
  • Willingness to undertake mandatory information governance training
  • Experience of supervising staff
  • Experience of Microsoft packages (Word and Excel)
  • Good organisational skills
  • Good customer care skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good oral communication skills
  • Good written communication skills
  • Basic numeracy skills
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and good practice
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Ability to maintain and work to standards
