Description

Based at Bruce House, Wellgate, Arbroath, covering the Angus area.

Duties

  • On a day-to-day basis, ensure that the quality of work produced by social workers is of an excellent standard.
  • Lead self-evaluation and quality assurance processes and provide regular quality reports highlighting areas of strength and areas for improvement across the service and in relation to individual social workers.
  • Identify and lead practice improvement activity, and report on performance and impact to ensure continuous improvement across the whole service with a focus on outcomes for children and their families.
  • Focus on participation and engagement of children and families and work with families to design and deliver improvement across the service.
  • Coordinate practice learning opportunities and supervise Practice Educators, Link Workers and students as required.
  • Provide formal and informal case supervision for qualified social workers.
  • Chair internal and multi-agency meetings as agreed with the Team Manager.
  • Support induction programmes for newly appointed social workers in the CF&J Service.
  • Support the Team Manager in the oversight of child protection and statutory social work practice to ensure high quality services.
  • Ensure service policies, operational instructions and guidelines are maintained in line with national policy, local developments and legislative change.
  • Identify and lead on the introduction of new policy and procedures in relation to professional practice, with a focus on children’s rights, ensuring they are integrated within social work practice.
  • Represent the Service and network with local partners, relevant national organisations and the Scottish Government as required.
  • Provide specialist advice and information to Heads of Service, Service Leaders and managers relating to children and families social work matters.
  • Promote a local understanding of corporate parenting and be a champion for those with experience of the care system.
  • Carry out investigations into complaints or coordinate case reviews of practice as required.
  • Deputise for the Team Manager as required

Essential criteria

  • MSc Social Work/BA (Hons) Social Work/ DipSW/CQSW/CSS with appropriate option
  • Practice Educator Award or willingness to achieve this within required timescales 
  • Willingness to undertake mandatory information governance training
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation and policy
  • Good oral communication skills with an ability to engage with families, professionals and deliver high quality presentations
  • Good written communication skills
  • Experience of working with children, young people, and their families in a statutory setting
  • Experience of assessing and managing risk
  • Knowledge of legislation, policy and research relevant to children’s services
  • Skills and experience of leading improvement
  • Experience of multi-agency working
  • The ability to evidence the use of research in practice
  • Experience providing professional supervision
  • Ability to work co-operatively with colleagues, partner agencies, families and carers
  • Interest in and enthusiasm for work with children, young people, and their families
  • Interest in and enthusiasm for practice/ performance improvement and self-evaluation methodologies
  • Flexible approach to work
  • Ability to deputise for Team Manager
  • Ability to support and guide Social Workers and Support Workers
  • Reliable, enthusiastic and innovative Commitment to social work values
  • Ability to work flexibly and agilely in a variety of locations as required
  • SSSC registration as a Social Worker
  • Ability to become a member of the PVG Scheme
  • Ability to achieve NPPV vetting status as required

Desirable criteria

  • Child Protection qualification (certificate or equivalent)
  • Experience in service improvement methodology
